RESIDENTS of Section Two Wangsa Maju are furious with their gas supplier, Gas Malaysia, for cutting off gas supply without notice

The representatives of the management corporation recently held a press conference with Wangsa Maju MCA division chairman Datuk Yew Teong Look to highlight their problem.

According to the representatives, the gas supply is centralised with individual meters and residents receive bills once in two months.

“We usually use RM10 to RM30 worth of gas every month and some of us wait for two bills before making payment,” said Lim Cheng Hock, 52.

Lim said his bill only amounted to RM11.70 per month and that he had been practising this mode of payment for 20 years now.

However, after receiving the bill this month and not making the payment before the stipulated 14 days, the company cut off the gas supply to the houses without notice.

Lim said he then went to their office to discuss the matter with the officer but was told to pay RM35 reconnection charges.

“Why should we pay RM35 when they did not notify us before disconnecting our supply?” asked Lim.

Another resident Ho Tuck Wong, 51, from Zone A, said the company did not handle the matter professionally.

“They did not take the residents welfare into consideration. The reconnecting fees are also too high,” he added.

The residents said they were willing to pay their bills but wanted the reconnecting fee waived. “The residents comprise middle- and lower-income groups and they have been inconvenienced by the gas supply cut,” he said.
