KUALA LUMPUR: Businessman Ooi Leong Kuan, 66, left the The Star Property Fair 2009 with a 5,173 sq ft duplex penthouse located in Segambut. “I’ve been eyeing this condo for a few years now.
“I noticed there was a sign saying that it was up for auction and I jumped at it,” said Ooi.
He won the property uncontested for the reserve price of RM729,000 and said he would be selling the apartment to an associate from East Malaysia.
Auctioneer Foong Chon Wai, 42, said auctions were gaining popularity as people could get good property at below market value.

Bidding by numbers: A man bidding during ‘Mega Auctions’ by CIMB Property Mart at The Star Property Fair 2009 yesterday.
“Many people were buying during auction for investment and occupancy,” said Foong who has been in years.
While many visitors were content with browsing and making enquiries on properties, a good number crowded round the auction sessions.
CIMB Group auction and property management marketing manager Charmaine Tan said 800 visitors packed the kiosk where the CIMB Property Mart Mega Auction was held yesterday.
A total of 23 properties including apartment units and houses were auctioned off.
A bid for a three-bedroom apartment won by Nurulhania Mohd Shariff was a sweet deal indeed as she now has a new place to call home. She was one of those displaced from Bukit Antarabangsa after the massive landslide there.
The 36-year-old finance staff at Amanahraya Bhd said she has been living with a friend since the incident and was very excited over her successful bid.
The reserve price was RM162,000 and was sold at RM170,000.
