The government has no intention to take over abandoned commercial projects by private sector in urban areas such as hotels and shopping complexes, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said yesterday.

In a written reply to Datuk Goh Siow Huat (BN-Rasah) at Dewan Rakyat, he said this was because the projects were undertaken by individuals or the private sector and involved other interested parties such as land owners and property developers.

On abandoned government projects, he said this would be for those whose implementation period was delayed by three months and the contractor was unable to proceed with the projects.

Abdullah said based on a Treasury Circular No 5 of 2006, the government had requested ministries/agencies to set up an Abandoned Project Revival Committee (JKPPS) to look into such projects.
