KUANTAN: PJ Development Holdings Bhd (PJD) has set aside RM35mil to renovate three hotels under its Swiss Garden and Swiss-Inn brands and two are expected to be completed by end of the year.
The two are Swiss-Garden Resort and Spa, Kuantan (RM15mil) and Swiss-Garden Hotel, Kuala Lumpur (RM12mil).
Renovation work on its third hotel, Damai Laut Golf and Country Club in Lumut, costs RM8mil and will be completed by the end of next year.
According to its managing director Wong Ah Chiew, the refurbishment exercise was to take on a new look that exuded a feeling of comfort for its guests.
He cited the modern and contemporary look of Swiss-Garden Resort and Spa Kuantan as an example which had a nice water feature that included cascading water at the coffee house.
“It has a much better ambiance with a nice and relaxing setting for guests to have casual as well as business talks,” he told reporters after the launching of Swiss-Garden Resort and Spa Kuantan new look and its 9th anniversary celebrations by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob here on Wednesday night.
Also present were State Culture, Arts and Tourism Committee Chairman Datuk Maznah Mazlan, PJ Holdings chairman Mohamed Zain Mohamed Yusoff and Swiss-Garden Resort and Spa Kuantan general manager Anu Kumar.
Wong said he noticed that the hotel industry had picked up for last four years after several international issues such as terrorism, bombings and a bird flu scare.
In view of the positive trend, he expected a good return from the investment made as the group’s hotel division contributed to about 20% of its total earnings.
Anu also said renovation work on the resort hotel started on Nov 22 last year and was completed on Feb 15, just in time for the Chinese New Year celebration.
